20x2 Chicago Slideshow Framework
This site is the demo for an animated slide show framework written in JavaScript. By “slideshow” I mean a collection of images displayed semi-randomly, as opposed to a slide deck that might be used for a presentation or an image carousel that is occasionally embedded in an HTML page.
The framework was written for the 20x2 Chicago live reading series, after attempting to find some existing framework that would fit our particular needs. This slideshow framework has been in use for over 4 years now.
Features of this slideshow framework:
- Images can be displayed with arbitrary text and graphics as overlays. There are 5 pre-defined layouts for text, depending on the format of the slide.
- Animate.css is used for transitions, so this project already has several animation options out of the box.
- You have control over the randomness in choosing the next slide to display, so you can display slides one at a time, in totally random order, or in semi-random order (picking a random slide out of the first N slides in the list, where you control the value of N).
- You can mark certain slides as “sponsor slides,” so that they are shown more often (useful to advertise events, the venue, general information, etc.).
- The HTML and JavaScript can be loaded from local disk; no Node or HTML server required, as long as you have all your assets on disk.

Note that this framework was not made to be mobile-compatible, so the demo may look like ass on your mobile device. Look at it on a desktop machine like a normal human.
